Winter in Dogpatch 2016 is making all of us very, very happy. Fishing has been on the back burner as you can see below but we will take this money in the bank. The McCloud Reservoir rain gauge is showing 66.5 inches and Shasta Lake is reaching the top. The series of storms rolling off the Pacific since my last report has buried Dogpatch in water and snow on Mt. Shasta, the Eddys and the surrounding area. No worries on enough water this year, it is now a matter of when we can get our asses out on the rivers .... right now the fish are winning.
About the only game in town currently is the Lower Sacramento River. Spring is an excellent time to fish this trophy trout arena. The flows are controlled from Shasta Lake so unlike other local rivers it is in fine shape. Here are some recent photos from there courtesy of Wild Waters Fly Fishing John Rickard and Anthony Carruesco.
