Ted Fay Report : August 30, 2017

The worm is turning on our local rivers and the Dog Daze of Summer is being shown the door. We are seeing some very nice fish being brought to the net on the McCloud, Upper Sacramento and Pit Rivers. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler, just the recipe for waking up the fish and turning up their taste buds. Hatches still have to wait awhile, the days remain hot and there's a prolonged heat spell forecast for the next week but once we get over that hurdle the Fall insect activity should kick in. Right now getting your bugs down in the sweet oxygenated water and in the deeper runs will increase your grab meter. The current Pit River bite seems to be on the Jimmy Legs and the Upper Sac/McCloud River ticket has been the good ole LBS, commonly called Little Black Shit. Start checking your calendar and tell the boss you are in need of some vaca time, this Fall looks to be one of the best. We are seeing more October Caddis casings in the rivers than ever, I guess the record winter flows did some good. Give us a shout if you need some guidance.

Just in from the Forest Service ............
